ICE #2: Panel Work: 2.0

Sometimes during the process of designing a page the thumbnail phase of production can inspire a cool outcome. Once carried over to its full-size cousin, the finish on a panel with solid inks and line weights can be startling, surpassing the original vision at its embryo stage. Other times I can see a rough outline for a panel and be so amped to attack it that I miss the subtle nuances in the inks. A tightrope act given that I'm working exclusively with pens. Every page has its hits and misses!

These, and other Panel Work posts represent the times I think things fell into place.

Keven Gardner on ICE @ COMICBOOK.COM

Our fearless leader over at 12GaugeComics has recently been interviewed by the fine folks @ COMICBOOK.COM. Keven Gardner, publisher and editor of several books I've worked on including Mick Foley's R.P.M. series, and my latest endeavor I.C.E. by Doug Wagner.

Awesome ComicBookJesus Review on TORN!

Pretty RAD review for TORN from the folks over at ComicBookJesus. Reviewer Kris Bather really understood where we were going and what we aimed to achieve with this original werewolf tale. Snippet below and link for the full review to follow :)

" Having James provide the bulk of the book’s art is an interesting choice, as his frenetic, hard edged line work is in spectacular contrast to Scott’s delicate pencils. It makes sense though, as Torn is, as the title suggests, a rip roaring action/adventure story. James’ slightly rough, sketchy style uses the page creatively and he creates diverse layouts and dynamic action scenes rather well. He uses things like texture, silhouettes, and a flowing design that doesn’t often rely on traditional approaches to panels in sequential storytelling. It’s a dirty, harsh world in the pages of Torn, but it looks great. I wouldn’t want to live there though."
